Bare Books - The Weight of Rain by T. C. Emerys
The Weight of Rain, T. C Emerys' debut collection of short stories, are set across Britain and Ireland. They are emotional, suspenseful and hopeful. The two stories from this collection that we are reviewing on this episode are the title story The Weight of Rain and The Beach at Rinsmore Point, where Cathryn's wife is hiding something. Each of these people has loved and lost, and the rain falls on them just the same. These stories show that there is always hope, even under the gloomiest of skies.

Bare Books Podcast - Flash Fiction - Don't Be Embarrassed, It's Normal!
April is exercising her funny bone this week! Who know she even had one! Her story proper tickled me, have a listen and see what you think. I (Daizi) have written a flash fiction without even a hint of a dead body, it's so light hearted I'm not sure that the pair of us haven't had a bump on the head!
So sit back and relax as we read to you about hypnotherapy, indecent behaviour, a talking exuberant little puppy and new family connections. We're in danger of making you grin this week.
you could guest host on a future podcast with your own flash fiction story.

Bare Books Podcast - Return to Kirrin v Ending Samsara
We have been blessed with some brilliant titles in our inbox recently, so we have chosen our favourites of the moment. April has read Return to Kirrin by Neil and Suzy Howlett, so listen up to find out what she thought of it. April, like me, grew up reading The Famous Five, Secret Seven and Malory Towers, so expectations are high!
I (Daizi) am currently reading Ending Samsara by J W Voyce. It’s not very often I find a book that’s pace matches my lazy style of reading so well and still keeps me invested. So I am very much engaged right now at just over half way through this book. How significantly can you effect another persons life without ever meeting them? Good question, and it’s the overriding question that is asked and answered throughout this book. Since we recorded this I've moved on a little and Olek is breaking my heart...

Bare Books Podcast - Flash Fiction - Under The Bed!
Our penultimate episode of season 3 and yet again we are truly astounded by the high standard of stories we receive into our email inbox for these flash fiction episodes.
We kick off with a sci-fi meets fantasy story written for us by Gerry O'Keeffe.
Followed by Daizi's dose of gossip over the garden fence.
April brings us a huge dose of quirky with an almost cute, but not quite, squatter!
And we round off the goodness with a thriller from Carolyn Ward-Daniels.

Daizi has read and reviewed Reliance (Powerless Earth Book 1) by Paul McMurrough for this episode, and she had plenty to say about it...
"When i started this book, I thought the rather lengthy explanations about the solar storm and the resulting global loss of power was a bit long winded, but, and I don’t say this often, I was wrong. When I think of a power cut, the first thing that comes to mind is, we’ll need candles, we can’t watch telly and, flipping eck, if it’s off for long the fridge freezer will defrost. And that’s about the extent of it, really. Apply that to a global scale and for more than the usual few minutes, or hours, and the ramifications can be terrifying, life threatening and the makings of a bloody good read. And while this is a work of fiction, it could conceivably happen, and that is a damn scary thought!..."
April has read and reviewed Ever Rest by Roz Morris. The write up on Amazon reads as follows, but what did April think of it?...
"Twenty years ago, Hugo and Ash were on top of the world. As the acclaimed rock band Ashbirds they were poised for superstardom. Then Ash went missing, lost in a mountaineering accident, and the lives of Hugo and everyone around him were changed forever. Irrepressible, infuriating, mesmerizing Ash left a hole they could never hope to fill. Two decades on, Ash’s fiancée Elza is still struggling to move on, her private grief outshone by the glare of publicity... Ever Rest asks how we carry on after catastrophic loss."

April has read and reviewed At Home in the Pays d'Oc: A tale of accidental expatriates (The Pays d'Oc series Book 1). The following is some of the writeup on Amazon, but what did April think of it?...
"This is the story of how a small brown and white spaniel turned the lives of two English holidaymakers upside down.Patricia and her husband Patrick are spending the summer in their holiday home in the Languedoc village of Morbignan la Crèbe. One hot Friday afternoon Patrick walks in with the little dog, thinking she is a stray. They have no intention of keeping her. ‘Just for tonight,’ says Patrick. ‘We will take her to the animal shelter tomorrow.’ It never happens. They spend the weekend getting to know and love the little creature, who looks at them appealingly with big brown eyes, and wags her absurd stump of a tail every time they speak to her...   ...it is the story of some of their bizarre and sometimes hilarious encounters: the Velcro bird, the builder in carpet slippers, the neighbour who cuts the phone wires, the clock that clacks, the elusive carpenter who really did have to go to a funeral."
Daizi has read and reviewed The Porter: Retribution in lockdown by Rachel Parsonage for this episode, and she had plenty to say about it.
Dave Williams, the hero of our story, suddenly finds himself confronted with the demons of his past - Dave and his brother Ken were in care in the 80s, subjected to a system totally unfit for purpose. When faced with one of the main perpetrators of the harm caused to them, Dave, unrecognisable in his protective equipment, finds revenge easy to execute...
"Initially the thing that struck me as interesting about this story, was the all male protagonist, antagonist plot. Not that that in itself is unusual, quite the opposite in fact, it’s all too common. What was interesting was that it was written by a woman. it can’t be easy to write from a perspective you’ve never experienced, was my first thought, credit to Parsonage for that. on reading, the story is more about vague generalised abuse and the emotional aftermath that would be relevant and equally traumatic for any gender..."

Bare Books presents Ending Samara by J W Voyce and read by Daizi Rae.

“How significantly can you affect another person’s life without ever meeting them?”Marcus Taylor scoffs at the argument posed on an internet thread; his destiny can’t be determined by anyone outside of his circle. The viewpoint is shaken when he witnesses a murder—an incident that sparks a sequence of events entirely beyond his control. As he desperately tries to shape his own future, he discovers that perhaps the world is smaller and more connected than he’d thought...
