Chapter 23: An Unfortunate Confession

'Zach awoke with a start in his hotel room in Cundinamarca, Colombia. His joints ached, the inside of his mouth had the texture of sandpaper, and it felt as though someone was lightly but persistently tapping nails into his temples. The room was dark, although a thin slither of light intruded via a skewed vertical blind. He rolled towards the centre of the bed and found that he was alone. He’d not fallen asleep in this condition; he distinctly remembered drifting off with a curvaceous local. Maria? Was that her name? No, Marcia. Marcia the Dance Instructor and History student… or was it Politics? Evidently she was gone now and he supposed it didn’t matter. Why she’d disappeared so abruptly, however, he had no clue.'
