Complicated Souls - Berni Hellier

Wednesday Nov 18, 2020

Wednesday Nov 18, 2020

In this, our 8th and last, indie author review [of season 2 at least], we are chatting with Berni Hellier about her book Complicated Souls.
Complicated Souls is a psychological thriller. Life is going well for newly qualified counsellor Kira Devlin. Toby Phoenix is a troubled man, haunted by memories of his abusive childhood. When their worlds collide, a series of disastrous events are set in motion. Convinced that she can help Toby, Kira continues to work with him against the advice of her supervisor, her training and her gut instinct leading to dire consequences. Complicated Souls is a novella which can be read in 2-3 hours but be aware it is by no means a 'light' read. It contains some hard hitting content (child abuse, suicide, murder and strong language).
We had a fantastic tiny peek into Berni and her writing inspiration. Taking a peek behind the story lines, the characters and the inspiration is always a joy.

Welcome to our bonus episode, the penultimate episode of season two before we round off the season with our Finale. This week we talk about inspiration, whether that is walking outside by the water, digging your allotment, writing poetry, art or keeping a diary. We also have a bit of a meltdown at the end of this episode, proof positive that stress does have to come out somewhere!
It was lovely to meet and chat with Andreena Leeanne today and have her read some of her poems from her book, Charred, A survivor speaks her truth to inspire.

April and I have had a go at writing our flash fiction stories ready for the new season come January. It's not an easy task to be fair, it requires a lot of discipline and control to not let your creativeness just flow and keep it under 1000 words. We have shared some hints that we hope will help anyone writing their first flash fictions. If you're an expert though do pop onto our facebook page and share some of your expertise, we'd love to read that.

Listed - L.J. Kerry

Friday Jan 15, 2021

Friday Jan 15, 2021

This is our first indie author interview/review of the new year. Join us as we chat to L.J. Kerry about her book Listed.
"They should have never met...When Judas Wells is ordered to send Nadine Ellis to her execution, he defies orders for the first time in his life by concealing Nadine in The Rebellion. However, once it is revealed that Nadine has actually been kidnapped from a neighbouring country, The Rebellion and Judas realise her experience as an outsider could bring down their own country's ruthless regime and restore freedom to the nation. Yet this proves no simple task when the government starts hunting them all down. As an uprising looms over the country in retaliation, nowhere is safe. With the help of The Rebellion, Judas and Nadine must survive long enough to see freedom restored—or face their demise."
We had a fantastic tiny peek into L.J. and her writing inspiration. She grew up a book worm and just by talking to her we can tell she always will be. We took a peek behind the story lines and the characters
